Well today is the day I was hoping would never come. We’re pretty much out of money. It looks pretty bad too. The husband sat down and figured out that after he gets paid tomorrow, and after tackling bills we will have $10 left over. That wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t have to buy groceries, and if I didn’t need new work shoes, work clothes, laundry money, bus money, and a haircut to boot. The worst part is the groceries, we have one bag of macaroni and pancake mix. That’s it. Oh yeah, and a can or two of tomato soup, and the husband is allergic to it. Well it’ll be hard, and hopefully we don’t have to sell anything to make ends meet!
1. I can hopefully put off buying work clothes and shoes for another month. I’ve already put it off a few months, but the boss is on vacation, so hopefully she doesn’t notice! (I have to wear “current” in-store fashions because I work in a womens clothing store).
2. Desperate this evening, I looked through my recipe books and did find one thing that I can make from the stuff in my measly pantry! Bannock! I can make a few batches, so hopefully that’ll last us for awhile! Also, if we buy yeast and lard (hopefully under $10!) we have enough ingredients to maybe make a few loaves of bread, we already have a jar of PB, so yay!
3. My husband is in very very good spirits considering the state of our finances. He just spent the weekend at a Cursillo.. retreat thing. It’s totally turned him around, and he’s doing amazing!
4. We have things we can sell. Okay, this one doesn’t sound like a positive, but maybe it is! If it turns out the bread/bannock idea doesn’t work out we have a couch/loveseat, TV, TV stand etc that we could pawn and if we do we could move into a cheaper bachelor suite downstairs!
5. The weather has been nice outside lately, if it holds up I should be able to walk to work instead of taking the bus. It’s about a 45minute brisk walk, so hopefully it doesn’t get too chilly! (Well thank goodness I got a new winter coat this year too!)
6. We have laundry soap and a tub! That’s great! Most of my clothes are hang-to-dry anyways, so it doesn’t really matter if I wash them in the tub, or in the washer now does it? I just save $1.25 each load if I do them in the bathtub!
7. We don’t pay for heat, electricity or water! That’s right! It’s included in our rent, and our rent is fairly cheap too. Now, we do have nasty bugs here, but if we keep the apartment spic-n-span then they stay away!
8. The car gets good gas milleage. That’s great because there is no way that $10 is going towards a measly amount of gas! Hopefully we can run it on fumes for a few days, plus with the warm weather, the husband can probably ride his bike to work.
9. We can still make bill payments. Sure we’re eating bread and butter, but at least we can pay the bills. It’s when we can’t pay the bills that we worry!
10. My dad might be visiting next weekend, and if he does, he said he would take us out for supper! A free meal! yay!!!
It’s all in perspective!
Matthew 6:25-34 allows me to keep faith and hope that we will make it through this. In case you’re wondering why don’t we cut off internet/phone etc to pay bills.. well.. we would but we are in contracts for both, we would have to pay to get out of them :\ can’t afford that either!
